2001 Season fishing reports..

"Good news! DFO announced that as of June 8th., 2001, coho retention is allowed at 2 fish per angler per day inside the surfline on the west coast of Vancouver Island. In Kyuquot (area 26) only marked (adipose fin-clip), hatchery origin fish may be kept. As of August 1st., 2001, anglers will be able to keep 2 marked coho per day outside of the surfline as well. Similarly, in Campbell River (area 13) anglers will be able to keep 2 marked coho per day starting August 1st. Chinook fishing is getting better in Campbell River, and there has been some excellent catches made in the adjacent mainland inlets. On Sunday., June 10th, up in Bute Inlet I had five chinook to nearly 20 pounds to the boat before 10 a.m. 4-5,000ft. mountains sliding straight into the water, snowmelt cascading off the cliff faces and black bears feeding on the tideline - it doesn't get much better than that! Chinook and halibut fishing is now underway on the west coast as well. In Kyuquot on June 14th a friend and a client of his released a halibut so big they didn't want to keep it!, estimated at 180 +/- lbs. On my first trip in 2001 to this exciting location ( 3rd. week June), a client caught and kept a 130 lb. halibut! Things are shaping up for another exciting summer, call now for the latest news. Thanks for looking me up - Jeremy."
